How do I Set the Windows Speech Recognition Input Device Preference?

Most users of WSR will use digital input technology to optimize accuracy. However the system may or may not recognize the digital microphone or headset you want. To configure your system to use a digital mic and not the onboard sound:

  1. Start the Speech Recognition module from the Control Panel

  2. Activate the "Advanced speech options" control in the upper left hand corner of the dialog, and then activate the "Advanced..." control located at the bottom of the Speech Properties dialog.

  3. Within the Audio Input Settings dialog, select the appropriate input device from the drop down. You will be advised that the settings change won't take place until Windows SR is restarted.
